I feel that its mostly my fault this piece has been misinterpreted by a few people so I figured a follow up was necessary. Asgore is not going to strike Gaster, in this moment his trust has been betrayed and he is gravely hurt, he's lost everything and now his best friend has betrayed him in the most inhuman way possible.
Side note, Asgore's line here is adapted from the Silver Chair, when Prince Caspian is speaking with his closest friend who lost his Son, Prince Rillian. Worth reading by the way.
